Newbie Approach To Marketing

Marketing 101

Like every newbie in an industry, I struggled a little with getting to understand the concepts Marketing and Advertising.

   My only knowledge being the few classes I had in secondary school Commerce. ”Marketing is buying and selling of goods and services”, my secondary school teacher had taught.

Here’s what I’ve learned so far about marketing; My teacher was right ”Marketing is buying and selling of goods and services”, while this is simple enough, the hard knots are the accompanying “How-tos”

• How to sell the product or service.

• How to know the right market.

• How to reach your market.

• How to keep the interest of your customers and get them to continuously patronize.

• How to ensure that you’re in profit and not running at a loss.

Answering these questions, irrespective of the size of your business is getting one step ahead of failing.

A good number of these questions can be answered with one word “ADVERTISING”.

I like to describe advertising as the process of communicating and bringing to notice, your commodity. It is telling customers and prospective customers what you’re offering. It is a means of attracting the right people to patronize your product and service. Great ads keep your product or services in the minds of people.

  Marketing and Advertising go hand in hand and are equally important to every brand.

   Another great answer to the “how-tos” is BRAND IDENTITY. This is the general overlook of the brand. It gives customers an idea of what to expect from a brand even before using their product. It is the first contact and face of the brand and so, importance should be given to its creation.

The brand identity is encompassing of its logo, style of communication and content, packaging and even customer service. All of these, when woven together gives an overall outlook of what the brand is about.

These require expertise and can be a lot for businesses. Another thing to note is it isn’t necessary that the brand handles its marketing and advertising itself. In fact, it is advisable to give over this load of work to a marketing agency that’s skilled and specializes in this field. Doing this would help the brand focus on its original product, and save them time. It also means your brand would be getting professional marketing services. A win -win situation, right?
